Caledon is an area blessed with history and great natural beauty.
The Niagara Escarpment and the Oak Ridges moraine impact on the landscape in
the form of dramatic cliffs and rolling hills. Caledon is home to the
headwaters of the Humber and Credit Rivers. The Humber River marks the
historic western boundary of the city of Toronto, which took its name from
an aboriginal word meaning "the place between two rivers." These rich water
resources have shaped both the natural history and development of this
picturesque area.
Settlement began more than two hundred years ago with the building of
mills along the banks of the Humber and Credit Rivers. While many of these
mills have disappeared, the villages they served remain.
Along the banks of the Credit you will find the quaint hamlets of
Cataract, Belfountain, Terra Cotta and Alton, while Caledon's largest town,
Bolton, grew on the banks of the Humber.
These hamlets have retained much of their rustic character and rural
charm. Caledon is home to a variety of fabulous country inns and scenic
vistas that include the Forks of the Credit.
Antique shops and art studios dot the countryside. The area is
frequented by visitors who come from all over the world to see the
spectacular colours of autumn leaves illuminating Caledon's country roads.
World-class recreational opportunities including golf courses, fly-fishing,
equestrian centres and both the TransCanada and Bruce Trail hiking systems
co-exist with the area's natural beauty.
The town of Caledon offers a vast variety of lifestyle choices. Bolton,
with a population of fifteen thousand, is located only thirty minutes from
Toronto's International Airport. Here one can find all types of residential
housing, including townhouses, semi's, condominiums and fully detached homes
in all shapes, sizes and price ranges.
The villages of Caledon East, Palgrave, Mono Mills, Cheltenham,
Inglewood and Mayfield offer housing with "small town" charm, while the
hamlets of Cataract, Belfountain, Terra Cotta and Alton, provide potential
homeowners with the opportunity to reside in settlements almost forgotten by
time.
A "community of communities", Caledon provides the more relaxed
lifestyle of a bygone era with the convenience and luxury of modern living,
all within commuting distance of metro Toronto.
